Smell in fabric

Totally random, but the fabric of the pants has the most unusual smell / odour. I have washed twice in hot water and washing powder and still can’t get rid of the smell. No idea what the smell is. I bought 3 other garments in the same order and no problem with those items.

I bought my usual size and they fit well. Lots of stretch. I have been buying a size up in Bestfriend jeggings to ease waistband over my hips, but these pants have plenty of stretch on the waistband as well. Nice and narrow at the ankle but definitely not tight. They will be perfect under lightweight long jumpers/tunics as pictured.
