INDIGENOUS DESIGNS BY ELVERINA JOHNSON AT TAKING SHAPE

At Taking Shape we love our unique designs and bold prints, it’s one of the things we’re famous for. We know you love these statement styles, as much as we do.

Now our prints are about to go to another level with an exclusive collaboration, featuring indigenous designs by the esteemed aboriginal fashion artist, Elverina Johnson. Due to launch in 2022, this is an amazing partnership and Taking Shape are beyond excited to work with Elverina on her quest to preserve the Indigenous spirit through the arts.

About Elverina Johnson

Elverina is a highly respected Gurugulu and Indiji Gimuy woman from Yarrabah in Far North Queensland, she is one of the Nation's most recognisable and accomplished artists. Her belief is that arts can empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and restore a genuine sense of pride in their culture and communities.
Elverina believes 'there are many roads to reconciliation' and the opportunity to collaborate with Taking Shape allows her to share her story on a national platform.

Like Taking Shape, Elverina takes her role of empowering women seriously. Her family name – Bunya Badjil – means ‘good woman’. Right now, Elverina is busy designing the prints, once revealed, you’ll see the female story is strong in her work. It’s why Elverina is passionate about making her unique prints available for all women to enjoy. Taking Shapes’ size inclusive styles, diverse fashion and style confidence provide the perfect canvas to celebrate all women.


Aboriginal Art X Fashion

Elverina’s art, with its bold and colourful designs is the perfect match for statement fashion. Her work has featured in the First Nations Show at the 2021 Sydney Fashion Festival and in the 2021 Brisbane Fashion Festival. Her designs have also been worn by the Miss World Contestant 2019 and featured on a Melbourne Vixens Netball player's shoes. Fun fact, she’s even performed with the Wiggles.
